Production Values

'Production values' have been much referred to in broadcast TV over the years. Many regret their demise. Production values are not always obvious, but without a doubt they have a subconcious effect on the viewer's impression of your video. If the video looks bad so do you; if it looks like anyone could have made it, they probably did.

Production values are the nuts and bolts basics of making television programmes, like shots being in focus, sound being crisp, and on-screen talent being professional.

'Production Values' - examples

Here are just a few production values to consider:-

  • Sharp shots
  • Artistic shots
  • Smooth shots
  • Imaginative shots
  • Crisp clear sound
  • Impactive editing
  • Appropriate music
  • Stylish graphics
